Leslie Ebert - Abstract Photography

Nice to meet you, this is how I arrived here capturing these unique images.

I like to say photography found me in an epiphany moment with a muse.  In 2005 my artwork entirely transformed when the shadow of a cross form appeared in a rectangle of amber light on the wall in my living room. I Had been working as an artist for many years when a cross form started showing up every day in my living room. People would remark on and try to figure out where it was coming from with no answers. My artwork had transitioned from collage to painting when this cross form kept showing up, so I photographed it. From that day, it showed itself in a slightly different place, moving almost entirely around the room in the course of two months.   Until one day, the low winter sunlight was skirting across the dining room table and reflected off a silver dish to make an enormous golden aura arching over the center of the table. I photographed it, but what I was seeing wasn’t showing up. Perplexed, I heard a voice speak in my ear; look closer, look closer. Having experienced the elusive muse before, I turned on the macro on the point-and-shoot camera I was using at the time and pointed it into the bowl. Where the viewfinder revealed a striking image of that cross form in red and golden orange, I kept taking pictures until the light had dissipated. It felt like a moment of divine intervention; my heart was full, and I thought to myself, there is something here that wants to be seen.   I have been chasing after rays of light with a camera since that day;  seeking meaning through the metaphors that show up for my camera.
